Interesting article. We have looked at the iPod Touch as an educational device but thought that the lack of a writing tool (and an efficient text entry method) and Apple's ongoing refusal to provide an open interface developers made it a real stretch. I had also heard rumors that Apple wasn't really interested in marketing this as an educational device (ironic considering their history). Having watched smartphones destroy the handheld market, I can see the same happening with the iPods. I guess time will tell.

I agree with what you have to say. In fact my first thoughts when I heard about the iPod Touch were about how it could be used in education. I recently received a first generation model which has led to a reinvigoration of exploration of possible uses in and out of the classroom. The iPod made many inroads into education with podcasting. However I think that the Touch has much more potential due to wifi and internet connectivity. The cost of plans for the iPhone take it out of the equation for most students.
